When you land on HyperGrand's website you see a lion. Don't be alarmed, it's their logo. Then you read that you have arrived at the "Home of the Original Graphic Printed NATO Watch". Not only does this lead you to question deeper "Who is HyperGrand?", but you're also left wondering "What is a Graphic Printed NATO Watch?".
Well, we're here to give you answers.
HyperGrand, was founded by Leroy Xavier Zhong a young watch designer who had already established and proved his love for beautiful timepieces by creating Edypoi, a luxury watch production company specialising in small batch production. In many ways, the Singapore based HyperGrand is filling a gap that Edypoi almost creates with its high price tags and limited editions. For HyperGrand crafts watches that are both attractive and affordable, thus becoming more accessible and appealing to the mass market.
Now we've got that sorted, let's investigate this Graphic Printed NATO Watch claim. Well, in case you didn't know, the NATO part relates to the strap of a watch. It's a type of strap (yes, there are many different names for the many different styles of watch straps). The name NATO comes from the fact this style of strap was created and issued by the British Ministry of Defense and in line with inventory documenting requirements, each strap was given a NATO stock number. Moving on from that slice of trivia, HyperGrand has somewhat taken the classic NATO strap and added a lot of vibrant character to it. Not only is the weave finer so the print has a better resolution but the patterns are completely original. And yes, the straps are easily interchangeable thanks to what HyperGrand boast is a "simple engineering marvel" so you can quickly switch from a 90s inspired floral pattern to an understated pastel camouflage if the mood takes you.
So why the lion, who appears to be smirking at us? Well, in an interview with Singapore Esquire magazine, Zhong explained choosing a lion as HyperGrand's logo was one way of showing its attitude and ambition to stand out from the crowd, bravely and boldly. And the smirk? That's HyperGrand's way of (not) saying sorry to those who think he should have left the NATO strap alone... Lucky for us they didn't.
You can now choose from six of the NATO01 watches at Twisted Time. Which is your favourite?
